Vacation Day 4: So, this day we foolishly decided to drive from Eureka, CA to Monterey, CA. Not too long of a distance for a day's drive until you take in to account that we decided to take Hwy1 north of San Francisco. Hwy1 is not known for its.... um... ease of driving. It is curvy and downright treacherous in places. We decided to go for it. That was a long, long, loooong, drive. It wouldn't have been so bad if it was nice and sunny out. But no, it was overcast and somewhat foggy the whole length of the highway. So, no nice view of the ocean to be had. At any rate, we eventually made it to San Francisco just in time for rush hour (yay...). In actuality, the traffic wasn't nearly as bad as we expected. We promptly got on real highways and made it down to Monterey around 8PM. That wasn't too bad considering we stopped for food at an Outback somewhere near Salinas.
The above photo was from the only photo stop we made that day. A somewhat generic shot since it was a scenic overview, but I think it still turned out okay. Notice the gloom hovering over San Fran. and the Golden Gate bridge. ;-) I snagged a nice chunk of the foreground thanks to my most wonderful wide angle lens. If you see the tree on the top of the hill to the left in this street view, that is where the shot was taken from.
Oh, and if any of you are planning on crossing the Golden Gate bridge in the near future, the toll is up to $6. :-S
