Seal of Disapproval

Recently this was commissioned from me. In case you haven't seen the video of the New Zealand fur seal that gets all octopus-slappy on an unsuspecting kayaker, that is what this piece is based upon. I was happy someone requested this as I really wanted to do something with this fur seal. So, thanks again person who commissioned this!

Also! This is now up on my Redbubble shop on stickers and other things.

Europa Critters from CosmoQuest Hangoutathon

Here are the two critters I drew during the CosmoQuest Hangoutathon last month. The prompt was, what might live in Europa’s ice encased oceans?

This first one I was inspired by deep sea invertebrate life such as anemones, sea cucumbers, and feather stars. Someone on the live stream had requested something that was a hexapod.

This second one was inspired by polychaete worms and gooseneck barnacles, with the swimming critters in the distance a mix between a hooded nudibranch and the ancient Cambrian pikaia.

Support Science! CosmoQuest Hangoutathon This Weekend

I’m participating as a guest on the CosmoQuest Hangoutathon this weekend.

4pm E / 3pm C / 1pm Saturday 12/22

The more we explore our solar system, the more places we find water and the potential (just maybe) for life. Let's give that possible life a face, and maybe also some wings or tentacles. Watch as artists Natalie Metzger & Nutty Nuchtchas give science personality.

As the description states, I’ll live drawing wacky extraterrestrial life. Come watch, join in the creature building, and help support science.

What is CosmoQuest? Here’s the full description of the project and event.

Do you think astronomy and space science need better funding? Here is your chance to do something to make that a reality. The CosmoQuest project was a NASA-funded citizen science facility. They make it possible for you to help professional researchers explore our solar system and find the safe places to land a space craft and scientifically interesting places to explore. They teach people everything they need to know to fill the research roles normally filled by students. Essentially - you can be the student who learns and does the science!

A few months ago they were warned that James Webb Space Telescope cost over runs and policy changes might cause their funding to be cut... and those cuts happened. They are now seeking private donations and sponsorships to help them keep the science going. On December 22-23 they are going to live stream science and science-related content for 40 hours as they try and raise the funds they need to keep the lights and servers on.

Tune in at, and please consider making a donation. CosmoQuest is part of the Planetary Science Institute, a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to solar system exploration. Your donations are tax-deductible where allowed by law. We think they are doing good work, and hope that together, we can keep on exploring our solar system and beyond. Learn more at donate at

Sidecar Astronauts - Play Again Album is LIVE

In case you missed it, Storm DiCostanzo, of the band Paul and Storm, just released his Kickstarted solo album today called Play Again by Sidecar Astronauts. It’s a delightful extravaganza of upbeat pop-tastic goodness. The perfect soundtrack to blast away the winter grey.

Also! I contributed a large portion of the artwork for this album. I’ve been a fan of Storm’s work for a very long time and I was thrilled and honored to get to design the art for this project.

But really, it’s all about the tunes. Storm did a fantastic job weaving together a sci-fi band, complete with tales of their adventures in space rocking out. You’ll get to see more of that once the videos are released, so keep your eyes peeled for that. I, for one, am excited to see where the Sidecar Astronauts go next. In the meantime, you can pick up a copy over at:

Eventually this album will be found in all the other usual music buying/listening places too.

Mermay Fruit & Veggies in Shop

I have added some of my Mermay 2018 fruit and veggie illustrations to my shop. Swing by and take a look. IMO the peahorse turned out extra adorable tiled. :3

Here’s a sample of the images available. If there is a specific image you’d like, but not available at the shop, please let me know.
