Over the weekend, singer-songwriter extraordinaire, John Anealio, announced a bold self-challenge wherein he is planning on creating 23 new songs this year. As writing and composing a song is on my things-I-want-to-do-in-this-lifetime list, seeing someone do one, let alone 23 in a year, is inspiring to say the least. I wish him luck in this endeavor.
Because some evil part of me likes a good challenge, I’ve decided to jump on the spacewagon and join his effort. While writing 23 songs is well out of my current skill set, I thought drawing 23 somethings should be doable. I mean, I managed to create 31 monsters last October and then another 30 characters in November – granted they were very small pieces of art. 23 illustrations shouldn’t be an unobtainable goal, right? Right.
As my 23 in ’13 challenge I am going to do 23 illustrations that will be on a larger scale than my previous art card/sketch projects. Not only that, but they will be illustrative responses to the 23 songs John is going to produce. Yeah, yeah, I know, that’s so meta. ;) Seeing as he is planning on doing a lot of instrumental works, this should be very interesting. I’m looking forward to the challenge.
Likewise, I challenge you to take up the 23 in ’13 challenge too. What 23 somethings will you do this year?
