On a Mission

Humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) participating in a male competition group. There was at least a half a dozen of whales splashing around and head butting each other in this group as we watched for a good hour. They were still at it when the boat returned to the harbor. She must have been quite the humpback lady of hotness that they were fighting over.

Wow! I went whale watching, once, but “all we saw” were pods of orcas. Very neat to see humpbacks.

Funny thing, that. I’ve lived in the Pacific Northwest for, well, a long time, and I have yet to see a pod of orcas. I envy you. I’ve seen lots of gray whales though. This was my first experience with humpbacks. And yes, it was very neat.
